CompBioMed & OpenMultiMed Joint Session at EPMA 2017, Malta

Multiscale Computing in Medicine: Clouds on the Horizon?
15 September 2017, 08:30 – 12:30

CompBioMed and OpenMultiMed are holding a Joint Session at the EPMA 2017 (The European Association for Predictive, Preventative & Personalised Medicine) World Congress in Malta. This will involve a mix of speakers from OpenMultiMed and CompBioMed. Open Multiscale Systems Medicine (OpenMultiMed) is a European Commission funded e-COST Action, the overarching aim of which is to gather a critical mass of international researchers and coordinate them as a team that develops and evaluates a transdisciplinary framework for multiscale systems medicine, consisting of novel concepts, methodologies and technologies.

Agenda:
08:30 Coffee & Networking
09:00 Introduction to the joint session by Harald Schmidt (OpenMultiMed) & Peter V Coveney (CompBioMed)

Session 1: Chaired by Derek Groen
09:10 Jane Zheng (OpenMultiMed, University of Ulster): Towards multi scale computing in systems medicine
09:30 Peter V Coveney (CompBioMed, UCL): Biomedical high performance computing within and outside clouds
09:50 Johannes Schmidt (OpenMultiMed, University Vienna): Bridging the gap between clinician scientists, basic researchers and computational scientists
10:10 Mariano Vazquez (CompBioMed, Barcelona Supercomputing Centre): HPC-based tools for multi scale simulations in biomedicine
10:30 Coffee Break

Session 2: Chaired by Peter V Coveney
10:45 Derek Groen (OpenMultiMed, Brunel University London): Multiscale computing and human brain blood flow simulations
